From the origins of court dance through the grand pas deux of the Classical and Romantic Era tutu, take a dance through time with award winning Bay Area costume designer Abra Berman as she tells the story of the history of ballet costumes. This visual and aural presentation will encompass the fashion trends, physical demands, and artistic evolution of the traditional ballet costumes seen on stages around the world.

INSTRUCTOR:  Abra Berman is an award-winning Bay Area theatrical costume designer, professor, and bridal gown creator. She has designed costumes for Alonzo King’s Lines Ballet, San Francisco Playhouse, Magic Theatre, and Marin Shakespeare, among many others. At her bridal salon, Alencon Couture Bridal Salon, she designed and dressed hundreds of brides from the simplest sheath to grand ballgowns with sweeping trains and custom embroidery. Today, Abra teaches and manages the costume department at Diablo Valley College’s Drama Department.  Her motto is “All the world’s a stage, and I want to costume it.”
