Mother was the Bride: Bridal Dress in Memories
This exhibition highlights recurring fashions in wedding gowns across three centuries. Grouped by distinctive features, the exhibition reveals how successive eras reimagined fashion details, shifting from the elegance of the 18th century to the excess of the late Victorians, through the sensual lines of the 1930s, to the exuberant maximalism of the 1980s, and beyond. Seen together, these ensembles reveal how decades of bridal fashion remain in dialogue and exciting variations emerge.
