This is a 5-day class, 7/13 – 7/17, 10 AM – 4 PM.
The “Nureyev” doublet was designed specifically for full range of motion and elegance. The Premier Danseur always insisted on using the highest quality materials for the costumes of his dance company. In this class, students will learn how to design, cut, fit, and build a dancer’s doublet worthy of the Nureyev legacy.
PREREQUISITE: Intermediate to advanced sewing skills. You must have sewing skills, have made a garment from a pattern in the past, be able to follow pattern instructions, and have a portable sewing machine. Please come with the body measurements for your doublet.
SUPPLY LIST: Materials:
- 1.5 yards medium weight fashion (your choice); brocade, taffeta, satin, velvet or combination. If mixing fabrics, it’s recommended to use brocade and velvet or satin or taffeta. It is not recommended combining velvet with taffeta or satin.
- 1.5 yards medium weight cotton muslin Matching thread
- Separating metal zipper 12″-14″ OR
- hook and eye tape (whichever is your preferred closure)
- Desired trim
- Fabric shears
- Matching double fold bias tape
- Hand sewing needles (sharps)
- 8 #2 hooks and eyes
- 2 yards 1/4″ matching OR contrasting piping.
- Bespoke piping is also encouraged.
