General Class Schedule (2024) | Embroidery Workshops | Embroidery Foundations Series
Embroidery is a craft that humans have been engaging with for a very long time.
In Laura Tandeske's 8-part Embroidery Foundations series, you'll learn a new family of stitches in each session. Did you know there are hundreds of embroidery stitches waiting to be mastered? These sessions are dedicated to teaching you a variety of surface embroidery stitches. With no specific design to follow, the focus is on learning and practicing each stitch. Laura's exciting, immersive four-day course Embroidery Magic way back in March was a roaring success! We're offering a second round of it, by popular request — and also extending it by another day, ALSO by popular request! To register for these classes, call (510) 843-7290 or email info@lacismuseum.org.
Learn Embroidery at Lacis Museum
Come and explore the world of textile arts with us. Connect with your human roots—and with other folks who're looking to do the same. Learn to express yourself with needle and thread in a welcoming, congenial environment. We'll be happy to have you, and you'll be in good company!
Regardless of skill level, there's something for everyone. Laura will be offering plenty of standalone workshops for those of you looking to execute a specific design, picking up valuable techniques along the way, or create a gorgeous sampler featuring a wide variety of stitches. There'll be a class on how to render your child's artwork in embroidery, and another on how to embroider on garments and tote bags — bring your own pieces to be embellished for that one!
In the impersonal age of Zoom meetups, the school of YouTube, and remote work, the traditional transmission of precious needle arts knowledge in person has become, we fear, a little neglected. Laura Tandeske and Lacis Museum are working hard to remedy that. Together, we'll build a community of embroiderers who will go out and beautify not just their lives, but the textile world that surrounds us, one colorful stitch at a time.
