General Class Schedule (2024) | Embroidery Workshops | Embroidery Foundations Series

Learn Embroidery at Lacis Museum

Embroidery is a craft that humans have been engaging with for a very long time.
Come and explore the world of textile arts with us. Connect with your human roots—and with other folks who're looking to do the same. Learn to express yourself with needle and thread in a welcoming, congenial environment. We'll be happy to have you, and you'll be in good company!

In Laura Tandeske's 7-part Embroidery Foundations series, you'll learn a new family of stitches in each session. There'll be a bonus session for those of you who want to explore thread painting with the long and short stitch and satin stitch, too!
Regardless of skill level, there's something for everyone. Laura will be offering plenty of standalone workshops for those of you looking to learn silk ribbon embroidery, or to embellish your tote bags and garments with flowers, or develop intricate and meditative mandala designs.

Embroidery Magic: A 5-Day Workshop

June 17-21

Freestyle Flower Embroidery

Sept. 11

Laura's exciting, immersive four-day course Embroidery Magic in March was a roaring success! We're offering a second round of it, by popular request — and also extending it by another day, ALSO by popular request!
In the impersonal age of Zoom meetups, the school of YouTube, and remote work, the traditional transmission of precious needle arts knowledge in person has become, we fear, a little neglected. Laura Tandeske and Lacis Museum are working hard to remedy that. Together, we'll build a community of embroiderers who will go out and beautify not just their lives, but the textile world that surrounds us, one colorful stitch at a time.

To register for these classes, call (510) 843-7290 or email info@lacismuseum.org.

Embroidery Foundations Series

All Embroidery Foundations workshops are $35; there's an optional $5 kit fee, payable to Laura.

There are 7 official workshops in this series (with one bonus class, available by popular demand—Thread Painting).
You can take the entire sequence, or the few that sound appealing to you, or even just one by itself!
Each Embroidery Foundations class is offered twice, on a Thursday and a Saturday. They take place from 12:30 to 2:30. If that first class fills up quickly, we'll also try to offer it again in an encore session from 3:00 to 5:00.
