General Classs Description:
Knitting is a wonderful skill that has been practiced for generations to produce garments and accessories from thick, wooly sweaters to colorful scarves, hats, and mittens to the finest of gossamer lace shawls, tablecloths, even curtains. If you would like to learn this valuable skill, we want to teach you. This class is free to any beginner who wants to learn to knit. Bring a pair of needles, a ball or skein of wool, and a desire to knit, and I'll get you started. You can drop in between 3 and 4 any Saturday for a lesson, as often as you wish, until you have mastered this venerable needle art.

Skill Level:
The class is open to any beginner who wants to learn to knit.

Materials List:
Bring a pair of needles (large needles, size 8, 9, or 10 are easiest) and a ball or skein of substantial wool or acrylic yarn (double knitting or worsted weight), preferably  smooth and light colored. If you have a pattern that you'd like to try, bring that as well. If you need supplies, we'll be happy to offer advice, and the Museum shop carries of range of needles, pattern books, and knitting accessories, but our yarn selection is limited to fine lace weight yarns which are a bit challenging for beginners.

Instructor:
A knitter since childhood, I have taught knitting at local yarn shops, at the Shanti Project in San Francisco, at Lacis, and informally to anyone who wanted to learn. I also have experience in knitting design (because I can never just follow a written pattern without fiddling with it), and am a specialist in stash acquisition.

If you have any questions, please email me at maryfrances@lacis.com, or call me at (510) 843-7178, Monday through Thursday. You can also reach me at the Museum shop, (510) 843-7290, on Saturdays.
